Being logged into also lets you use those little "Like" buttons everywhere as well. (That fact alone should disqualify Meg Whitman from running another company, let alone the state of California).įacebook has already shown the power of this with "Instant Personalization," where users logged into their Facebook account automatically have sites like Yelp and Pandora "personalized" with information from their accounts and from their friends. Skype is the largest phone company in the world in terms of sheer minutes but it doesn't make very much money - certainly not Google-scale money. which doesn't make this a rich vein for Google, no matter how many users they get. and Canadian calls and the low cost international calls. While the service looks to be a competitor to the free/low-cost calling company Skype, I'm doubtful that's the intent. (Oh, and it works far better on Android than on the iPhone since Apple STILL won't allow a Google Voice app, which could come back to bite them). From there, it's not a small step to start using it on a smart phones as well. The Google Voice mobile app is going to benefit from the integration as well, as large numbers of Gmail's hundreds of millions of users users will likely sign up for Google Voice in order to receive phone calls in their browser.
